APL Logistics to get new CEO; 3PL Webinar recordings available; Reverse Logistics still a cost-center

Lots of content to share this week including access to the webinar we recorded a few weeks ago featuring the CEO’s of SCI Logistics and Pacer Distribution on the 3PL Industry, and a great report on the reverse logistics and aftermarket services trends within the hi-tech industry. Yet more changes at the senior management level of 3PLs, this time atAPL Logistics; there have also been movements at MIQ this week.

Lastly I would like to invite European shippers and LSP’s to participate in the first ‘European Logistics Location Monitor’. This will be a comprehensive complimentary industry report released on an annual basis, which will score over 100 regions of Europe as to their suitability and popularity as a location for siting a distribution centre.
Categories to be scored include: Quality of Infrastructure, Cost of Labour, Proximity to Strategic Transportation Hubs & Corridors, Availability of Land/Existing Warehouses, Accessibility to Customers & Suppliers etc.

The report will be released in April, 2013 - and respondents to the survey will get priority and full access to all the results and data which will include detailed scoring of each region in each category and future projections as to the changing logistics landscape in 2018.

To complete the survey which should take no more than 15 minutes please visit here. Please note that all results will be collated and no individual responses will be published.
Please also forward this email and link to all your colleagues and contacts as this will be a major new information resource and benchmarking tool for the European Supply Chain and Logistics Industry, so it is important it is comprehensively completed from companies throughout Europe.

Featured Content: 70% of Hi-Tech Companies Still Consider Reverse Logistics as a Cost Center

eyefortransport’s latest industry report reveals that 70 % of supply chain executives at hi-tech companies still consider reverse logistics as a cost center. The report, released this week, demonstrates how more than two thirds of the executives surveyed do not recognize reverse logistics as a key revenue source.

In the 2013 ‘Hi-Tech Reverse Logistics & Aftermarket Services Report’ 70% of supply chain executives at hi-tech manufacturers indicated that reverse logistics was still a costly operation at their company.  35% of those surveyed saw reverse logistics as a cost center supporting product sales in comparison to 32% who voted it as a cost center creating competitive differentiation.   In contrast to 2012 30% now see reverse logistics as a profit centre (compared to 18% last year) – this is a very encouraging statistic.

The report goes onto outline the key reverse logistics challenges facing supply chain executives in the hi-tech industry.  When rating their levels of transparency, 68% of executives said that their reverse logistics processes were either very or somewhat transparent.  Visibility over the first mile back has always been a significant issue for hi-tech manufacturers, however they are clearly seeing the benefits of improving this area such as decreased costs and high levels of customer service.
