Schiphol partners sponsor life science logistics summit

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol has partnered with Air France KLM Cargo, Cargosafe, AAA and logistics service provider IJS Global to provide the main sponsorship for this year’s Life Sciences Supply Chain Summit.

Schiphol Cargo’s resident pharma and lifescience logistics expert, Bart Pouwels, is also among the Elite Speaker Faculty for the event - which will cover the shipping of pharmaceuticals, medical devices and healthcare products. Pouwels will share the stage with other experts from many of the world’s leading manufacturers and shippers in the sector.

The conference – now in its fourth year - will focus on the impact of global regulation on supply chains, the potential role of value chain collaboration in saving costs, exploiting new markets, and supply chain management as a market differentiator in the healthcare sector.

Topics such as supply chain segmentation, direct-to-customer delivery, overcoming obstacles in emerging markets, relationships between shippers and their LSPs, and the future of the life sciences supply chain will also be examined.

In addition to the two-day conference and its presentations, panels and interactive peer discussions, one to one meetings will also be available between users and suppliers of logistics services.

Says Bart Pouwels: “We are all delighted to join together in sponsoring this important event, and I am personally honoured to have been included in the distinguished line-up of speakers.

“The lifesciences and healthcare sectors are vitally important to airfreight’s future success and prosperity, replacing other commodities traffic that has been converted to surface freight. This makes them a key target for development by Schiphol and its partners.

“As an industry, we must ensure that our aspirations to attract such business are also supported by the adoption of best practice, the willingness to learn and adapt to the sector’s special needs, and the investment required to provide the necessary specialized resources.”
