Lowe’s opens 1.2 million-sq-ft distribution centre in Pennsylvania

Facility is now operating at the United Business Park, Shippensburg in Franklin County, Pennsylvania

The facility will replenish largely appliances and bulky inventory at more than 130 stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia, New Jersey and New York and allow last-mile deliveries via cross-dock facilities.

Penske Logistics will run and staff the facility for Lowe’s. More than 100 people are expected to work at the facility.

Lowe’s says the new distribution centre will help it improve and speed delivery to customers across the Northeast, allowing more focus on next-day delivery. “Adding this facility enables us to provide faster and more reliable delivery for our customers, which improves their overall delivery experience,” said Robin Bornkamp, Lowe’s vice president of supply chain strategy and network. “It will help ensure that we have inventory in the right place, at the right time and in the right quantity to meet our customers’ needs.”

The Matrix Development Group owns the facility as well as the entire 350-acre logistics center.

The new facility is part of the company’s plan to invest $1.7 billion to transform its supply chain over the next five years.

Lowe’s has additional distribution facilities in Pennsylvania in the Pittston, Pottsville, Bethlehem and Mount Pocono areas.
