Women in Logistics; Shipping Rates Plummet; Transplace has New Equity Partners; Favorite 3PL?

I’ve recently been thinking about the issues around increasing diversity in the logistics industry, which is one of the key challenges nearly every company faces. The percentage of the logistics workforce that is female is shockingly low, especially in middle and senior management. To not be using 50% of the talent pool is going to be detrimental to the industry moving forward, and must be addressed now. I was therefore pleased to be invited to the FTA everywoman in Transport & Logistics awards in London a few weeks ago which actively promotes the role of women in the industry. I was also pleased to see Ann Drake (CEO of DSC Logistics) launch the AWESOME initiative recently (Advancing Women's Excellence in Supply Chain Operations, Management and Education)

The proof will of course be in the pudding, and I look forward to the day when the attendee and speaker list of major industry conferences, including our own, are not so male dominated. Ann Drake and Carolyn Gable, CEO and Founder of New Age Transportation, Meri Stevens, CSCO, Newell Rubbermaid, Jill Marcotte, CSCO, Dealer Tire and Deborah Winkleblack, Vice President International Logistics and Compliance, Claire’s Accessories will all be speaking at the upcoming 3PL Summit and CSCO Forum in Chicago on June 18-20 and I hope that in future years senior female logistics executives will not be in such a minority.

Lastly, today is the final day to vote for your favorite 3PL in your industry vertical for the Customer Choice 3PL Awards, so please do so now here

Regards,

Chris Saynor
CEO, eyefortransport
